3D Bioprinting Workshop

The 3D bioprinting workshop is a two parts workshop:

Part I: Dr. Adam Feinberg will deliver an introductory presentation to highlight the state-of-the-art technologies and newest advances in the field, and how they related to open questions in the field of cardiac development and regeneration. Dr. Feinberg is a Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Melon. His group has pioneered several bioprinting approaches and used them to advance our understanding of cell-material interactions and guidance cues encoded in the extracellular space to organize multicellular assembly.

Part II: The introductory notes will be followed by an hands-on 3D bioprinting workshop led by Dr. Jaci Bliley. Participants will be introduced to the core principles and practical techniques behind bioprinting, from bioink formulation to printer operation and construct design. Attendees will work directly with extrusion-based bioprinters to prepare cell-compatible materials, optimize printing parameters, and fabricate simple tissue-like structures. Designed for trainees and researchers new to the field, the workshop emphasizes real-world workflows, common pitfalls, and how 3D bioprinting can be applied to disease modeling, regeneration, and translational research.

Meet the Expert lunch

The Meet the Expert Lunch offers a unique opportunity for trainees and early-career scientists to engage in small-group, informal discussions with leaders from across the biomedical ecosystem. Participants will have direct access to experts representing academia, clinical medicine, publishing, foundations, patient advocacy, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry, gaining candid insights into career paths, decision-making, and real-world impact beyond the lab. Designed to encourage open conversation and mentorship, this interactive lunch provides a welcoming space to ask questions, build professional networks, and explore how diverse sectors collaborate to advance science and improve human health.

A history of New York Speakeasy culture

New York City’s speakeasies were the hidden heartbeat of the Prohibition era (1920–1933), when the sale of alcohol was illegal but nightlife refused to die, so it simply went underground. Behind unmarked doors, in back rooms of restaurants, barber shops, and basement “tea rooms,” patrons slipped past bouncers and passwords to find jazz, dancing, and an anything-goes mix of socialites, artists, immigrants, and political fixers. These secret bars didn’t just keep people drinking; they helped define the city’s modern identity: fast-talking, style-forward, culturally inventive, and always a step ahead of the rules. This presentation traces how speakeasies rose, how they operated, who really ran them, and why their myth still shapes New York nightlife today - from the glamour to the grit to the legends we keep retelling.

Sunrise Yoga on the Pier

Join for a pre-meeting yoga session on the pier on Thursday morning, set against the New York City skyline. Stretch, wake up, and ease into the day in a relaxed outdoor setting while thinking about all the great science ahead. It’s a simple, energizing way to start the morning, enjoy the waterfront views, and get ready for a full day of conference activities. Free mats will be provided.
